Extracurricular – Love of Learning

Want to try something new? Looking for a new challenge? Want to meet new people?

At St Anne’s Academy we understand the importance of offering opportunities outside the usual curriculum. We believe that these activities contribute to the academic and social development of our students and recommend that students take part in at least one extra-curricular activity.

You can watch football, athletics, trampolining and rugby on television, or you can really enjoy them by joining your school team. Not into sports? How about: Chess Club, Creative Writing, Student Council, Computing, Knitting, Cooking, Student Fellowship, Chess Club and Board Games, Musical Theatre Drama or Singing, Rock Guitar, LGBTQIA, Flag Football, Art or Photography?

So many choices can seem overwhelming, but getting involved in new activities with new people is a fun way to challenge yourself.

What Are the Benefits of Extracurricular Activities?

You get to explore your physical, creative, social, political, and career interests. You’ll find friends: trying something different may bring you in contact with people you didn’t know who share your interests and curiosity.

Participating in extracurricular activities helps you in other ways, too: it looks good on sixth form and job applications and shows that you’re well-rounded and responsible. Specific activities help with specific goals — if you want to teach language or get a bilingual job, being the President of the Spanish Club shows the depth of your commitment. Extracurricular activities can also be a fantastic way to relax and unwind; finding a balance between your school work and other commitments is a great skill to develop.

How Do I Find the Right Activity for Me?

Review the activities we offer and listen to other students’ experiences to find an activity that meets your needs. Think about your interests, abilities and time — have you always wanted to try acting? Are you tired of playing sports alone? Are you looking to meet friends or get support? Don’t limit yourself to the familiar — try something new. If you have a club or activity you would like the Academy to run then speak to our Extra-Curricular Coordinator, Mrs Phillips.
