Provider Access Policy

Introduction

This policy statement sets out the Academy’s arrangements for managing the access of providers to students for the purpose of sharing information about the provider’s education or training offer. This complies with the Academy’s legal obligations under Section 42B of the Education Act 1997.

The Baker Clause: Partnership with Colleges and Other Training Providers

The Academy is fully compliant with the Baker Clause stipulations that schools must allow colleges and training providers access to every student in Years 8-13 to discuss non-academic routes that are available to them.

Student Entitlement

All student in years 8-11 are entitled to:

  • Find out about technical education qualifications and apprenticeship opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available at each transition point;
  • Hear from a range of local providers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships – through options events, assemblies, group discussions and taster events;
  • Understand how to make applications for the full range of academic and technical courses.
  • Have these encounters with providers at least twice in years 8/9 and twice in years 10/11.

Procedure for management of provider access requests

A provider wishing to request access should contact Ms Zowie Phillips (Careers Leader) by telephone on 0161 6432643 or by email to [email protected]

Opportunities for access

Various events throughout the academic year will be integrated into the Academy Careers Programme to offer providers the opportunity to come into school to speak to students and their parents/carers. Please speak to our Careers Leader to identify the most suitable.

Premises and facilities

The Academy will make the main HeartSpace, classrooms and meeting rooms available for discussions between providers and students, as appropriate to the activity. Audio-visual equipment will be available to support provider presentations and we aim to accommodate your requests. These arrangements can be agreed in advance of the visit with the Careers Leader.

Providers are welcome to leave copies of their prospectus at the main reception, to be passed to the Careers Office which is managed by the independent and impartial Careers Adviser.
