Summer School 2024

We encourage all Year 6 students to attend our Summer School which is a free event which will run next year from Monday 12th August to Friday 16th August 2024 from 08:30 to 14:50 each day.

This is a fantastic opportunity for students to meet their peers in a friendly and welcoming environment.  Students will take part in a variety of activities including team building, arts and craft activities, street dance and sports day.  The sessions are fun and informative with plenty of prizes to be won. Refreshments including breakfast and lunch are provided every day, free of charge.

Further details will follow nearer the time.

Previous Summer Schools

Last year, we delivered our annual summer school programme to our new year 7 cohort. Post lockdown and the time students spent in and out of school, all were keen to take part in our programme to make sure they were ready to attend a secondary setting. Over 100 of our new Year 7 students attended Monday to Friday to experience our curriculum, get to know peers and staff and take part in a range of fun, interactive activities. This also gave students the opportunity to familiarise themselves with our building before they joined us full time in September.

Our range of activities was extremely broad and there really was something for everyone! We offered the following activities:

Maths

English

Science

Drama

Dance & Sport

Personal development/ Circle time

‘Party Animal’

Cookery

Students particularly enjoyed dissecting hearts in Science and their session with the Party Animal. Many took the opportunity to handle animals and critters to face their fears and as a result, grew in confidence!

On the last day, student feedback was taken, the cohort felt that Summer School was a huge success and feel that the experience made them feel ready to join Secondary school, allowed them to make new friends and familiarised them with their new surroundings.

We would like to say Thank you to the Department of Education for funding the Summer School.
