Homework plays a valuable part in a student’s education. It is an essential and integral part of the school’s curriculum and will be set in subjects where and when it is practicable to do so. Homework provides students with the experience of working without help from the teacher, or other students, to develop the habit of private study. It serves to consolidate or extend work done in school, to increase understanding of the subject or to practice specific skills. Homework enables more work to be covered so that faster progress can be made and it can strengthen the liaison between home and school.
Homework is set for all students.
It is the policy of St Anne’s Academy to support learning in lessons by setting suitable homework. The length and type of homework may vary, according to the subject, the ability group and the Key Stage.
In some subjects it may be part of a coursework project that needs work completing both in and out of school over a period of weeks. In other subjects, homework may be set as a specific lesson follow up or as preparation for the next part of the course.
There are recommended times for homework
(per week in each subject):
Year 7: up to 30 mins
Year 8: up to 45 mins
Year 9: up to 60 mins
Years 10 and 11: up to 2 hours
Homework will be recorded in each student’s planner.
