Know your Year 9 options

What subjects shall I choose?
It is important to choose subjects that will interest and motivate you. Spend some time thinking about what you enjoy doing, what keeps you interested in something and what makes you work hard.
If you don’t have a career in mind, choose options that will give plenty of choice in the future. If you do have a career in mind, research your career and choose your options accordingly.
Remember, no qualification is ever wasted.

What will be different?
You will spend more time on your subjects.
Some of your courses will lead to external examinations.
You will carry out coursework/portfolio. These are projects which count towards your final grade.
You will have chosen some subjects yourself.

Which subjects do I have to take?
English, Maths, Science, ICT, PE, Citizenship, PSHE and Religious Studies.

Which subjects can I choose?
During the options process students choose 3 or 4 specialist subjects. Some of these subjects are GCSEs, BTECs or NVQs.

BTECs are equivalent to 2 or 4 grades A* - C
NVQ Level 1 is equivalent to 1 grade D – G
NVQ Level 2 is equivalent to 1 grade B
